454 viewsArnold Rubio, a well known painter employed as a pictorial artist by Disneyland's staff shop (where life-like finishing touches are put on all Disney animations before they are used in the Park) just about turned in his brushes recently. It seems that Rubio had just completed a masterful painting job on one of the elephants for the Jungle River Cruise in Adventureland. It was the shiniest, most sparkling elephant ever seen. Floyd Humeston, the taxidermist, approached the finished product and to Rubio's amazement tossed a bucket of dirt all over the new paint job...because as Humeston says: "Who ever heard of a shiny, sparkling elephant!" (Vacationland, summer 1963)

306 viewsSince Disneyland opened seven years ago, the sculptors, modelers and other craftsmen of the Park's staff shop have translated Art Director's renderings into just about any finished product you can name -from beaver's dams to desert buttes, and exotic fish to elephants. Earlier this year, when new additions in Disneyland's Jungle River Cruise were being added, the renderings called for an authentic section of ancient Cambodian ruins. Foreman Bud Washo happily recalled that Harold Wilson, a sculptor, was an expert in matters of Asian artifacts, and called to see whether he was available. Wilson wasn't. Seems he was out of the country...searching for ancient ruins in Cambodia! (Vacationland, summer 1963)

187 viewsThe exit side of the Enchanted Tiki Room. Shortly after the Gods are "angered by all the celebratin'," those guests on the steps are going to have to move-on to avoid getting trampled by exiting Tiki Room guests still blinded by eyes not yet adjusted to bright daylight! Between the steps and the Tiki Room lies a short bridge which crosses the stream of "dark water" which has made its journey all the way from Storybook Land and is about to splash into the mysterious waters of the Jungle Cruise.

177 viewsFrom 1962 to 1993 the new Tahitian Terrace featured meals from the cuisine of the South Pacific and live shows featuring songs and dances from several Island cultures. The shows were performed by the Royal Tahitians several times daily, six days a week. A large Diseydendron Eximus "tree" provided a shady canopy for the performers and diners. There was also a large waterfall that "magically" parted to allow the performers access to the stage.
